E Motorcycle Cut Off Kestrel Trail

Please help Ridge to Rivers and the Boise Police Department spread the word that gas and electric-powered motorcycles are not allowed on most trails in the Boise Foothills. As these dirt bikes and electric models gain popularity, especially among kids and teens, we are doing what we can to educate the public about their responsible use. Safety, as always, is our top priority.

The Ridge to Rivers trail team has recently encountered riders on electric vehicles in popular non-motorized areas including Hulls Gulch, Camel’s Back and Military Reserve and we have received several complaints from concerned residents also noting their presence in these areas. Not only are these electric bikes high-powered and potentially dangerous for other users due to their weight and speed capabilities, these vehicles can also quickly tear up the trail tread. An image is included showing the damage from off-trail moto use along Kestrel Trail in Hulls Gulch Reserve.

There are several areas open seasonally to motorized use on the Boise Front. These trails were built specifically to provide opportunities on designated trails to keep folks from climbing hills and causing erosion. All motorized vehicles including ATVs and e-motorcycles are limited only to trails marked as open. Off-trail travel is prohibited.  Recommended areas for riding e-motorcycles include 8th Street up to Ridge Road, Hulls Gulch Motorcycle Trail #4 and Femrite’s Trail #6. Other trails where e-motorcycles are allowed open April 15, 2026. Click here to learn more: https://www.ridgetorivers.org/trail-guide/motorcycle-plus-atv/

It is up to all of us to protect the trail experience we know and love and be respectful of the wildlife that calls the Boise Foothills home. Thank you for your assistance as we work to educate users on where and when the use of these vehicles in the foothills is appropriate!
